Buzz Lightyear and Ninja Turtle Balloon Costumes

Posted by on Sep 26, 2012 in News, Twisting around Town, What's Happening | 0 comments

(Videos below the break)

So I’ve had a pretty amazing week enjoying some very new experiences.  Last year I posted a video of my 2011 Halloween costume of Buzz Lightyear.  Like all of my costumes in recent years, I made it out of balloons.  I posted the video of me doing a very corny and entirely whole-hearted Buzz impersonation.  Since it went up on Oct. 30th last year it had crept along at a few hundred views a week,  then last week something happened.  I don’t know the exact order of events, but in the past week the video has been tweeted by Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3, has been posted on dozens of sites,  has been shared on Facebook and Twitter hundreds of times, and has received 70,000 + views in the past week.  Most excitingly, I have been contacted by a major broadcasting company with a request to share my video (I’ll offer more details on this if it actually happens).  God is good!

The timing for this really couldn’t be better, as I am about to spend the next year volunteering at an orphanage in Cochabamba, Bolivia.  The work of my wife and I depends on the charitable donations of others, so I am using the popularity of my video to point people to our cause.

With the popularity of Buzz taking off, Ben Alexander of Balloon Distractions, contacted me to make an offer:  If I made a video for Balloon Distraction’s Youtube channel, and it received 10,000 views, he would donate $500 to my support fund.  I wanted to build another costume before I left anyhow since I’ll be out of the country during Halloween, so on Monday I put together a Ninja Turtle costume.  Ben has also graciously offered to send me balloons throughout my year at the orphanage to keep the boys entertained.

Children’s Magician Cleveland and Akron

Posted by on May 3, 2012 in News, The Party Biz | 0 comments

Hi event planner,

Jeff Wright here.  I am a professional children’s magician performing in Northeast Ohio in the Cleveland and Akron areas.  As a children’s magician, I perform a 45-minute magic show that is fun for the whole family but focuses especially on children age 3-8.  Those aren’t arbitrary ages.  I fill my show with comedy, magic, and balloons that play extremely well for that age range, and I continue to hone my act to make it the best option for children’s parties in Cleveland and Akron.  Just like a doctor chooses a specialty, as a magician, my specialty is children’s magic shows.

While Jeff the magician entertains the children, Jeff the businessman and responsible adult knows that parents and other event planners have a lot to worry about.  To help ease your mind and to be the best entertainment option for your event (and to be a perfect fit for schools and daycares), I am fingerprinted and FBI and BCI background checked, carry Liability Insurance, and am a licensed substitute teacher.

If you’re still not convinced that I am the children’s magician for you, I have a page full of honest testimonials, and my company 5Star-Talent.com was voted Best Party Entertainer in Cleveland for the Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Awards.

Lastly, you can take a look at this video and let the giggles do the talking.  Thanks for considering making me the magician for your next event.

Making stuff up at CWRU, Balloon Twisting

Posted by on May 2, 2012 in News, Twisting around Town, What's Happening | 0 comments

I had a great time tonight (really yesterday at this point) at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland twisting balloons for the college students at their biannual Study Over.  It’s a party with food, games, crafts, and balloons, that help the students de-stress before finals.  I’ve done it twice and I love the gig because it sharply contrasts most of the gigs I do (like 5 year-old birthday parties) in that rather than making 10 of the first thing the kids see, I am challenged the entire night (in this case until 12:30 am) making the most absurd and extremely nerdy (endearingly) requests ever. My line tonight was 2 hours long.  That’s not an exaggeration.  I cut the line at 10:20 and those people received their balloons at 12:20.  It was so long because every student had a smartphone in hand ready with a picture of some obscure or esoteric request. Many requests were also mainstream, but were very demanding.  So I stepped up to the plate and made some pretty cool things.  I had a few rough ones, but the Muse was definitely singing tonight. Here are some designs that were brand new to me as of tonight.

A brain with eyes

Charmander and friends

A quick spartan helmet and sword.

The Tardis (1 of 3 that I made)

Scooby, I really like this one for an on-the-spot original.

I also made a few other cartoons, some video game icons, and a Japanese animation character that I had never seen before.  Oh, and of course, a narwhal.  What a blast!

All over town, all sorts of gigs.

I am blessed to travel all over Cleveland and Akron (and sometimes even the Youngstown area) doing all sorts of shows and performing for all sorts of people.  I twist balloons, perform kids’ magic shows, and perform my  Stupendous Storytelling Balloon Show.  With a variety of services and new venues and clients every week, it never gets boring.  The past week and this week are perfect examples of how awesomely diverse my job is.  Take a look:

Two Saturdays ago (4/21) I was in Macedonia twisting balloons for young families as the mom’s and youngest children were taking part in the world’s largest simultaneous cloth diaper change (Yes, Guinness was all over it).  Apparently there were over 20,000 people taking part all over the world.  I got out before the smell became unbearable.

That afternoon, I went to Hinckley and performed The Stupendous Storytelling Balloon Show at a 6th birthday party hosted at Z’s Cream and Bean.

Last Thursday I performed my No-Bully Balloon Show for an elementary/middle school in Lyndhurst.  The show was for the kindergarten-8th grade.

Last Friday I performed my Stupendous Storytelling Balloon Show for a daycare in Mentor.  The show was for 3-6 year olds.

Saturday afternoon I was in Downtown Cleveland for a Browns Party with the Karen Foundation (msparty.org) to raise money for MS research.  The Barley House in Cleveland was packed with live music, Browns players, radio and TV personalities, camera crews, and lots of happy and generous people.  This was one of those great events where I make more balloons for the adults than the kids.  It had a VIP type feel, so I never had to rush and was able to make some huge and creative balloons.

Saturday night I went to Olmsted Falls to perform a magic show for 90 people at a 1st birthday party.

Today, Sunday, I was at a Flea Market in Niles, twisting balloons for all the guests.

Tuesday night, I will be in Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University for the Study Over.  It’s an event I did last semester as well.  It’s a last hurrah before the students have to buckle down for finals.  It goes till midnight and I spend 4 hours satisfying the requests of very imaginative (and endearingly nerdy) college students.

Thursday morning I will perform another No-Bully Balloon Show for an Elementary school in Munroe Falls.

Thursday evening, I will be twisting balloons (and perhaps performing a little magic) at a Pre-K/Kindergarten registration in Bedford.

Whew!!!

I’m then taking a well-deserved vacation to Niagara with my beautiful wife for the weekend.  I’ve been listening to some Joe Walsh lately, so all I can say is “Life’s been good to me so far!!!!!”

God bless.

The fact that you could hold the attention of 20 children, ages 6 and under, for an hour, is awesome in itself! :-)

New Website

Posted by on Apr 26, 2012 in News | 0 comments

I’ve spent the last few days installing and modifying a new theme for wrightentertainment.biz. I think it has a nicer look to it than the old website. I also cut out a lot of the extra pages to streamline everything a bit. I have a photo shoot tomorrow at a show, so I should have some new pics up soon. I hope the new look helps me pull in a few more potential clients looking for some great party entertainment.
